Personnel – AssociateProfessor Nadia Rubai-Barrett is exploring how local immigration policies influence local government service delivery. Several faculty are assisting the Binghamton Police Department in a project designed to increase the diversity of its uniformed personnel.
Nonprofit Capacity Building Sustainable Capacity – Assistant Professor Allison Alden is implementing collaborative models that help nonprofit networks extend their resources by sharing information and capacities. Assistant Professor David Campbell has combined both research and service activities to support capacity development among nonprofit organizations by merging their resources and personnel.
Civic Engagement
Led by Assistant Professor Mischen, several Binghamton University faculty members are exploring how the methods of social network analyses can inform and improve service delivery in areas such as HIV/AIDS counseling, community assets for youth programming and linking geographic with virtual communities.
Service Learning Assistant Professors Lambright and Lu have been studying the effects that service learning projects have on the achievement of curricular objectives. Assistant Professor Alden is exploring how student resources can assist in the maintenance of ongoing community service projects.
There are many other ongoing research activities at the Department of Public Administration. We are also working on ways to make our research more accessible and transparent for people in the community. By utilizing action research methods, we expect that citizens and local groups will increasingly become co-producers of our research.
