Field Placements with Stipends
Information on placements with stipends for students enrolled in the MSW Program at Binghamton University’s College of Community and Public Affairs.
Practicum Partnership Project (PPP): The Department of Social Work and a number of local providers of services for older adults have joined together to support students interested in serving older adults or students who think that this may be an area of interest. Through this initiative, we hope to increase the number of students interested in specializing in social work practice with older adults. Students will be engaged in rotational internships in which they will have the opportunity to work with two or more agencies and projects related to aging.
For 2007-2008, there are a total of four placements available for social work students. The placements each offer $6,900 in tuition support for that year and a $5,000 stipend. Two additional placements are being sponsored through AmeriCorps, requiring a commitment to complete a minimum of 900 hours over a calendar year. Students who are accepted into this option would also receive tuition support of $6,900, a stipend of $5,450 and an additional educational award of $2,362.50 that is awarded after the successful completion of the placement to be used towards education expenses such as a student’s educational loan and/or tuition.
Southern Tier AIDS Program: The Southern Tier AIDS program offers a $1,550 stipend, competitive placement for one student each year, requiring that the student complete 2.5 days/week.
Veterans Administration: The Veterans Administration in Binghamton, Syracuse and Bath, N.Y. offer the opportunity for students accepted into their programs to apply for a stipend. This is competitive with other interns in the region who are also completing field placements through the Veterns Administration. Students who get this award receive between $4,000-$5,000. Students need to complete an additional 35 hours to receive the full stipend.
