Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Center for Applied Community Research and Development?
The Center for Applied Community Research and Development (CACRD) a research center founded, staffed and hosted by Binghamton University connects the University and individuals and organizations seeking community-based research partnerships. The CACRD goal is to create symbiotic relationships where community organizations benefit from the University’s resources of while providing fertile ground for publishable research. The knowledge embodied in each group benefits the other for the greater good of all.
How can I participate in CACRD?
As a student, there are several ways in which you may participate in CACRD activities. You may intern at a community organization, participate in a service learning project in one of your classes or even be funded by a graduate research assistantship.
How do I apply for an internship?
First, check our View Available Internships page. Many of the research projects proposed by community organizations can be accomplished by master’s level student interns. If your program has an internship requirement, this is one way to both satisfy the requirement and conduct applied community-based research. Second, contact the community organization directly. Decisions regarding hiring interns are made by the organizations, not CACRD staff. Third, make sure both the organization and your academic department/program know that you are seeking the internship to fulfill your internship requirement.
Can any Binghamton University student apply for an internship?
Internships posted on the CACRD website are for master’s level students with an interest in applied community-based research. Undergraduates who need to fulfill an internship requirement should contact their home departments for assistance or the Discovery Program [http://discovery.binghamton.edu/].
How do I apply for a graduate research assistantship?
When specific assistantships are available because of grant-funded activity, they will be posted on the CACRD Student page [http://ccpa.binghamton.edu/community/studentgateway.html]. However, we will be happy to keep your resume on file. E-mail it to Steve Jackson (sjackson@binghamton.edu) with a cover letter that includes your research interests and your expected graduation date.
